Clonny's On The Beach is a relaxed beachfront café nestled right on Sandy Bay Road in Clontarf, making it a go-to spot for locals looking to unwind by the water. The casual vibe is amplified by its prime location overlooking Clontarf Beach, with open views stretching toward Spit Bridge. This setting naturally draws a mix of visitors—from early morning rowers and dog walkers to families and friends gathering over weekend brunch.

The coffee here hits a solid middle ground—nothing flashy but reliable enough to satisfy those who take their brew seriously. Tobys Estate Coffee is a staple choice, paired well with the café’s straightforward menu that marries casual bites and more substantial options. Popular picks include the hefty breakfast burger, served with generous fillings that make it a challenge to finish, and the battered flathead with chips, a no-fuss nod to seaside classic fare.

Outdoor seating is where Clonny’s shines, especially on sunny days when the café buzzes with activity but maintains a laid-back pace. Children scamper nearby, dogs are often found lounging in the sun, and weekend mornings bring a cheerful hum of community life. Staff interactions tend to be warm and genuine, with a younger crew whose friendliness adds to the welcoming atmosphere. This blend of local character and beachfront backdrop makes it a fitting place for casual catch-ups, weekend breakfast rituals, or post-activity refreshments after a paddle or swim.

Clonny's is also capable of handling larger gatherings without losing its approachable charm—locals have successfully hosted significant birthday celebrations here, appreciating the relaxed environment that keeps both kids and adults content. While the food and coffee might not outrank specialty city spots, the value lies in the combination of solid fare, approachable service, and the effortless beachside setting.

Best time to visit is mid-morning through lunchtime, especially on weekends when the café's friendly hum is at its peak. If you’re locals or visiting, expect a typical day at this spot to weave seamlessly with the ebb and flow of beach life—no rush, just good coffee, hearty bites, and salt-sprayed air.

I stopped here for a coffee after rowing one day. While we weren't dressed the part in bare feet & wet clothes, we were still welcomed in to order just a coffee mid morning. The coffee hit the spot, and service was good. What was GREAT was the location. It's situated right at Clontarf Beach with views across to Spit Bridge. There's a hive of activity on the weekends, with lots of kids, dogs and picnics. Plenty of parking also, however it's quite expensive in the metered areas. Opt for the neighbourhood streets a short walk away if you don't have the spare change!

The young staff are second to none. It's the easiest thing in the world to be 'nice' - but they're actually kind. Delicious burger dripped all over my hands it was so succulent, and I didn't mind a whit. It was also so hefty I couldn't even get halfway through it. My $4.00 all-natural ice block was worth every dollar, so I'm not sure what the surly bloke elsewhere was on about. I enjoyed the lack of chemical emulsifiers, thickening agents, etc. I got to taste food instead. Bargain!

Decent coffee (not great, nor bad), great breakfast burger (loads of filling!) and decent fish and chips. Good service too, and reasonably priced for the beach.

As I live in the area I was looking for a venue to host a gathering of around 45 - 50 people for my wife's 40th Birthday and it really was an exquisite choice. The Kids were well entertained by all that Clontarf has to offer and the food, service and experience as a whole was brilliant and all our friends thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thanks to Christine and her team for a wonderful time, my wife was really happy with the choice.
